PADI Divemaster course plays a vital role in the PADI system of diver education, as it is the first professional diver level. When you successfully complete the PADI Divemaster course, you can assist instructors with training student divers. You can supervise diving activities for certified divers, snorkellers and skin divers. You can also teach Emergency First Response after successful completion of an Emergency First Response Instructor Course. As a diving professional, you can strongly influence the safety and fun divers enjoy during their training and diving.

 
The PADI Divemaster course expands the problem solving skills developed by the PADI Rescue Diver Course, and extends it from accident management and prevention scenarios to supervisory situations with student divers and certified divers.

At the Divemaster level, problem solving emphasises looking for many possible solutions under the circumstances and choosing the best of several. Divemaster problem solving may include more than safety related issues, and include handling customer/student service, business and operational challenges. The course also addresses personal attributes and judgement. The program develops a divers attitude, skills and experience along with the theoretical knowledge of diving and instruction making a more confident and professional diver.
 
The Divemaster course is divided into 3 areas: Knowledge Development, Water skill and stamina (includes learning how to demonstrate skills) and Practical application. The course has been designed for flexibility in assignments and sessions to permit the most effective course construction for the local teaching/diving environment and your individual needs.
 

 

To qualify to enrol on the PADI Divemaster course, you must:

  • Be certified as a PADI Rescue Diver or have a qualifying certification of the same level; proof of certification in diving rescue from a training organisation other than PADI)
  • Have completed and logged at least 20 dives (proof of 60 dives showing experience in night, deep and underwater navigation is a certification requirement)
  • Be at least 18 years old at the start of the PADI training.
  • Submit a diving medical signed by a physician confirming your fitness to dive.
